What does it mean for churches (house, cell, etc.) to be “organic?”

There’s a lot of talk these days about being “organic.”  Not just with our food, but in our churches as well.  Why?  Well, the cognitive understanding of the difference between the church as a building and/or institution and the church as a living, breathing spiritual organism has become a popular issue. More and more people are starting the explore the concept that the church is an organism, along with the ramifications of that perspective.

On February 10th, we’ll start exploring the book Organic Community by Joseph Myers.  We’ll work through 11 posts in a 3-week series called “What It Means to Be Organic.”  At the end of these 11 posts, you’ll be able to identify when your relationships, small group, church, etc. are operating organically (as an organism) or mechanically (as an institution); as well as gain insight on how and why to make the switch.
